With the latest advances in technology, the time needed to restore damaged teeth through the use of crown and onlay dental procedures has been reduced. Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEREC, allows Dr. Jacobsen to bring your smile back to life in one office visit instead of several weeks. Dr. Jacobsen is proud to offer CEREC to patients in Scottsdale and the surrounding East Valley cities.
Dental crowns are “caps” that are prepared and cemented over an existing damaged tooth in order to bring back the tooth’s natural shape and size, function, strengthen the tooth, and enhance the overall appearance of the tooth. Onlays are similar to crowns, but instead of covering the entirety of the tooth, onlays are used in cases where there is fractural damage to the cusps of the tooth or damage that compromises the perimeter of the tooth; allowing for more conservation of the natural tooth structure.
In recent years, the process of getting a crown or onlay has involved the patient coming into the office to have an impression made, the impression sent to a lab for the crown to be made, and a return visit by the patient to have the restoration cemented onto the tooth. Not only was it a long process, but it was an inconvenient one for the patient as well. CEREC utilizes 3D computer technology to make durable, high-quality dental restorations. Instead of the process taking two weeks from start to finish, CEREC technology allows Dr. Jacobsen to take digital images of the patient’s mouth, design the ceramic restoration, and cement it in place – all in the same visit. With CEREC, you will be smiling the minute you walk out of our office!
